The Seattle Whistlers continued their deadline sell-off by moving another one of their most productive veterans, trading center fielder Harrison Bader to the Orange County Juice. In exchange, Seattle acquires promising outfielder Evan Carter and Orange County’s third-round pick in the upcoming draft. After already parting ways with Brent Rooker earlier in the day, the Whistlers continue to reshape their roster with an eye toward the future.
For Orange County, the addition of Bader strengthens a club firmly in the playoff hunt. The Juice enter the second half at 14-11, holding the fourth and final postseason berth by a single game over the Boston Stouts. Bader has been one of the league’s most valuable all-around outfielders this season, pairing elite defense at all three outfield positions with a 134 OPS+ at the plate. Long viewed as one of the premier trade chips available, Bader is expected to slide into left field, replacing Ramón Laureano and giving Orange County another proven bat as it looks to solidify its postseason position.
Seattle’s return centers on upside. Evan Carter, one of the league’s more intriguing young outfielders, has yet to appear in a game this season but is expected to take over as the Whistlers’ everyday center fielder immediately. Combined with another valuable draft selection, the deal continues Seattle’s strategy of exchanging established veterans for young talent and future assets, signaling that the Whistlers may not be finished making moves before the trade deadline passes.
